HW Tech Help Desk - Globally Speaking
Last night, Thursday, January 8th. Students in the Emerging Technology Course represented the HW Tech Help Desk in a live twitter chat #techteamMA. The discussion was based around the idea that student-run help desks can have a bigger impact in their own community and ultimately, globally. Throughout the student moderated twitter chat (@CodeLenny), students from all over New England, from both public and private schools engaged in a lively discussion about:
- the Help Desk and its role in schools
- the technology students would like to see more of in their classrooms
- Help Desk accomplishments and how they support Ts and Ss
- things Help Desk Ss would like to do better
- the Help Desk and its relationship with IT Departments
- how Help Desk Ss can support each other and... make their mark on the world.
@CodeLenny created a digital story, using Storify, that nicely organizes the discussion.

Using Your iPad to Take Notes in the Classroom
When I entered high school my parents bought me an iPad to use in my classes. At first I was hesitant and didn't know how I would use it in class. Now, I can't imagine my school life without out it. My iPad and it's apps have allowed me to take notes more efficiently in class. I can now keep up with the discussion without getting bogged down with the note-taking process. I began taking notes using an app called Paperport Notes, I was able to organize my notes by classes, take pictures of my documents and use OCR to have the text read to me. I could also annotate documents using this app. This past year I switched to an app called Notability, this app is similar to Paperport Notes, however it has more features. Using Notability, I can record lectures in the class and review the audio at home. Now I focus on typing just key points and use the "real time" audio file to review challenging concepts. Another great feature of Notability is that my notes are automatically backed-up to Google Drive and/or Dropbox. If you'd like to learn more about Notability and how to best use it in your classes, stop by the HW Tech Help Desk.
